Metrics From The Week

Final Week In Denver

Been doing a lot more recording lately, using the mid-morning block to record reels and YouTube videos. It’s been going well. Creating a habit of recording and leveraging this learning that I actually GET energy from hitting record, instead of waiting for energy or inspiration to HIT record.

Also edited together some new testimonial videos I got into a new Instagram story highlight for my page. Feeling way better about the feedback this round.

And finished a new notion doc asset.

Did a final errands day, cleaned up the van and packed up my two backpacks. Then parked it up and headed to the airport!

✈️ To Virginia

Christmas With Family

We booked an airbnb up in the mountains for Christmas together!

Highlights:

  • First time meeting my niece (9mo old). Met her in the morning while my brother was holding her. She just started at me, no expressions, eyes locked, didn’t move. I was making faces, poking at her. After a couple minutes my brother goes “okay now we rip the bandaid off” and just hands her to me and she immediately starts 😂 BUT after the next hour or two she warmed up. I kept making faces, smiling, playing, then she started smiling and laughing. I played with her with her toys, held her, threw her up in the air. By the evening there were a couple times she came to ME and reached her hands out for me to pick her up. Awwww.
  • Had LOTS of time playing with my niece, playing with her toys, taking her outside, holding her, etc.
  • The views from the cabin were incredible!
  • DIY coffee tasting with some fresh coffee I brought for my dad.
  • Drove into Luray to see the Luray Caverns, went to a brewery, coffee shop, a long river walk, and a winery.
  • Cuban style Christmas Eve lunch and church service.
  • Opening and giving gifts on Christmas morning, eating pancakes, putting the drone up to get a family photo on the deck.
  • And overall just a wholesome and wonderful holiday week with the whole family. It’s been 12mo since I’ve seen them all!

I keep my family out of my public life here which is why I put them inside these hidden sections.

One More Week

My parents left and I stayed one more week with my brother, sister-in-law, and niece.

Highlights:

  • Went into Harrisonburg to a brewery, chatted, walked around, went to this arcade, strolled around.
  • 2 Orange Theory HIIT workouts with my brother. Great cardio and weights workout! Got the heart rate up nicely.
  • Went back through all my 2025 Google Photos and put together an album of top photos from the year, and another album of funny outtake photos. Posted those to Instagram. It was fun reflecting on the year. What a year!
  • Drove down to the Charlottesville area to see check out plots of land and see the city. I actually liked it a lot more than I was expecting! Great food, vibes, modern infrastructure, new buildings, mountain views, nice downtown, great shops. I was like damn maybe I should move there too lol.
  • Dinner out at a nice restaurant in Harrisonburg.

Back To Denver

After 2 weeks in Virginia, finally said my goodbyes and flew back to Denver.

But the trip back was a little bit special this time.

When I was booking my flights, I noticed something interesting. I can’t remember the exact numbers, but I used miles/points to pay for these flights to and from Virginia and it was something like 15k over and 17k back.

I’ve never flown first or business before, but as I was looking the options for Jan 3rd, I noticed something interesting. See if I flew back on Jan 2nd, it was something like 17k for economy, 60k for first. Not worth it obviously.

But if I did Jan 3rd, it was 17k for economy and 30k for first class. I literally had to double take and refresh the page, it didn’t seem real.

For an extra 12k miles I can fly first class? For a ticket that’s normally ~$700?

So I went for it.

And MAN it was nice. Sure it wasn’t like those Emirates first class where you get a lay-flat seat and they come massage your feet and do your taxes for you, but it was nice.

What I noticed:

  • It was nicer to board first and just get settled in instead of waiting a while. I didn’t think going first would make much of a difference.
  • SO much leg room. And the arm rest was big enough you didn’t have to fight over it. And the tray table goes all the way across and isn’t attached to the seat in front of you, so if they recline their seat it’s really negligible for you.
  • It’s quieter in front of the engines.
  • It was a 3.5 hour flight, economy gets snacks and drinks, but we got a full meal like long haul flights. And I had the option to pre-book a meal in advance (at no extra cost). They had a Washington D.C. Dulles airport-special crab cakes that I went for and it was really quite good!
  • You use a glass instead of plastic cup for drinks and real silverware instead of plastic for the food. And they bought a hot towel out for before the meal.
  • You get the food and drinks a LOT quicker than when you’re sitting in seat whatever, 65J.
  • And then de-boarding first was quiet nice as well, not having to wait for everyone in front of you.

I landed and thought huh, yeah there’s gonna be more of these in the future for me 🙂

It’s not a “life-changing” experience, it just… sucks a lot less than economy. Much more comfortable.

Would I book it again at 60k miles instead of 30k? Nah not right now, but if I can get a great deal like this one? Absolutely.

Back To The Van

She was right where I parked her and started right up 🙂

We’re so back.

What’s Next?

Locking back in.
