Metrics From The Week

Final Snaps From Denver
The last days were mostly just errands, cleaning up, packing, and getting the van prepped for sitting for a week. I’ve got checklists in my notes for both my van storage and packing my backpacks that I’ve used a number of times now. I can’t tell you how helpful it is, not having the anxiety of worrying if I’ve forgotten to pack anything or what I need to do and when.

Off To Iceland
It was about a 7 hour flight up over Canada and Greenland. When we got to Greenland the captain said to look out the window to see the northern lights! My first time seeing the northern lights! It was just a faint green streak, but came up better on the phone camera.

Iceland With The Boys
Came here for a trip with the guys from the community I’m apart of. We had a lodge about an hour outside of the city.

Day 1
- Strokkur Geyser – shoots up every ~10 minutes, reminded me of Yellowstone National Park quite a bit, very windy and cold out there, absolutely freezing in the wind with everyone just waiting there with their phones up and recording, waiting for the geyser to shoot up at any moment lol
- Brúarfoss – waterfall, took a bunch of camera and drone photos, and b-roll, the first time I took a photo and went…. “woah okay this is beautiful.”
- Hung out in the evening, hot tub, saw the northern lights fully this night, they looked like grey streaks in the sky, but the green color just popped out when you took a phone photo; had some absolutely hilarious laughs going between hot tub, goofing around, and taking northern lights photos, then back to the hot tub.

Day 2
- Seljalandsfoss waterfall – massive waterfall, went for a little walk along the path there, then back behind the waterfall; saw some trucks and vans with massive wheels, they build ’em different around here
- Reynisfjara Beach – very cool black sand beach, rocky, the waves were powerful hitting against the rocks, had some nice moments of just full presence taking in the views and waves; very touristy; started raining and we all got wet
- Skógafoss – another massive waterfall, really cool, felt like a different planet, grey, misty; I went up to the pool of water at the base of the waterfall and was just blasted with so much rain, walked away soaking wet; then we went on a hike up the path around the water fall and up the mountain; felt like I was in Lord of the Rings or something, such a cool and different landscape

Day 3
- Geldingadalir Volcano – hiked about 1.5 hours up to this massive volcano cauldera, saw a bunch of steam vents coming out, put the drone up, but couldn’t find any actual red lava, eventually went down the rim onto the black hardened lava, took a bunch of photos, b-roll, found this white/yellow area that felt like a sauna, messed around; felt like kids throwing the volcanic rocks down this big hill and watched them smash the other rocks and basically evaporate into dust, ended up cutting both of my hands with some of those rock throws lol, but it was so much fun; super crusty crunchy sound walking on some of those areas; so much adventure and just raw masculine fun with the boys
- Another hot tub night, chatting, goofing around, laughing

Day 4
- Laugaras Lagoon – picked this geothermal lagoon spa that was close to the lodge (cheaper than the touristy blue lagoon) and basically spent the whole day there, the water was super warm, steam coming off, cold morning air, sun came up around 10am, peaking through the trees, it was one of the times on the trip I was like wow… this is actually an unreal view in person rather than taking photos and realizing how amazing it looks; did sauna + ice bath a couple times, just hung out, chatting, relaxed; I also just remember feeling so present there, I only took my phone out of the locker room to take photos once, so the rest of the whatever 3-4 hours was just experiencing life in the present, which felt good from all the other days where I was mostly deep in my cameras taking photos, b-roll, drone shots.
- We came back to the lodge and had a barbecue, fire in the fireplace, and played games downstairs

Thoughts From The Week
Conversations
Had some really great conversations this trip about life, business, routines, religion, social media strategies. I got some new strategy ideas for my Instagram reels that haven’t been doing as well lately (just been clipping reels from my YouTube videos). And ended up posting 10 trial reels using that strategy and a bunch did well views and likes-wise.
Sleep & Energy
The time zone change is 7 hours, and I barely slept maybe 1 hour on the flight over, so my sleep routine was absolutely destroyed. Then the sun is only up from like 10am to 5pm, so it was hard to reset my circadian rhythm. And I was sleeping late, 12am-6:30apm. I definitely felt it this week. Many of the car rides I couldn’t hold my eyes up and would end up napping.
It was a bit of a struggle, but I survived at least, just pounded coffee in the morning. And I liked waking up at 6:30am still, having a coffee, doing some journaling, chatting with some of the other guys that were up then.
But what I also found was that my focus and presence suffered because of this, it was so much harder to just sit still, I would reach for my phone more often, it was easier to scroll and watch videos. I felt that and was like woah, it’s so different to what I’m used to. So I again re-learned why I value sleep so much.
What’s Next?
Flying back to the U.S. in just a couple hours after this blog post.
